THE MISSION:

To reach the state of Oaxaca in Southern Mexico with the Good News of Jesus Christ through a sustainable, repeatable, culturally relevant movement focused on:

(1) Demonstrating the love of Christ through a city-declared Season of Service
(2) Sharing the love of Christ through a city-reaching evangelistic festival
(3) Sustaining the love of Christ through ongoing collaboration and partnership.

Engaging culture.
Encouraging change.
Expressing Christ’s love.

THE NEED:

One of the poorest states in Mexico, this growing region of Oaxaca (population: 3.3 million) is hurting for support, encouragement and resources.

With our ability to unite civic, corporate and church communities, build bridges between secular and Christian groups, and bring focus to local congregations, the Christian community in southern Mexico is looking to us for guidance and support in this expanded approach to evangelism and community service.

God willing, our involvement in Oaxaca and Huatulco will have a lasting impact, transforming the area for Jesus Christ.

Oaxaca City, Mexico

November 14-15, 2008 QUICK FACTS:

  • The population of Oaxaca City, including the surrounding metro area, is greater than 500,000.
  • Although 88 percent of the population claims to be Catholic and 5 percent Protestant, less than 46 percent actively attend church.
  • Officially established in 1522 by the conquering Spaniards, Oaxaca still contains more speakers of indigenous languages than any other Mexican state.

Huatulco, Mexico

November 12, 2008 QUICK FACTS:

  • A picturesque coastal town on the southern coast of Mexico, Huatulco and the surrounding area is home to more than 430,000 people.
  • Modeled after Cancun, Huatulco and its 9 bays have become the next site for a major city-wide development project focused on tourism.
  • Although still a growing city, there are more than 350 local Christian congregations in Huatulco and the surrounding area.

THE STRATEGY:

From November 12-15, 2008, the Palau Association will bring our proven festival model to two cities in the southern state of Oaxaca in Mexico – Oaxaca City and Huatulco – together with the region-wide Season of Service. Each with a unique approach to reach these cities for Christ, these campaigns will help shake the region, meet physical needs, and impact lives for the Kingdom.
