The Joy of Communion

Posted in Articles, Spiritual Growth

Consider the privilege we have in taking communion, the Lord's Supper. Consider the honor we have in sitting at His Table!

Let's go to 2 Samuel in the Old Testament. Here we read about the strong friendship between David and Jonathan. With great loyalty, they both promise to take care of each other's family when the other dies.

When Jonathan dies first, we witness King David's sincere loyalty when he says, "Is there anyone still left of the house of Saul to whom I can show kindness for Jonathan's sake?" (2 Samuel 9:1). Even though Jonathan's son, Mephibosheth, was crippled in both feet, David invited him to sit at his table - the king's table – all of his days.

Think about that! We are just like Mephibosheth – far from perfect, yet invited by the very King of kings to forever feast at His table.

Let us rejoice! It is only by the blood of Jesus Christ that we are given this privilege. May we never take this blessing for granted.
