My Mother's Advice for Evangelism

Posted in Share Your Faith

In 1960 I was on my way to America for graduate studies. At the airport in Buenos Aires, before the first flight of my life, my mother couldn't stop giving me advice. Her last words before I got on the plane were, "Don't go into the cities, don't travel alone, don't get shot and stuffed in a trunk, and remember Hebrews 13, verses 5 and 6!" I confess to ignoring at least some of my mom's admonition. America's cities were alluring, and I couldn't wait for the day when I would preach the Gospel to tens of thousands in the nation's stadiums!

Do you feel compassion for lost souls? Wherever you are today, your community is full of hurting people. And YOU are called by Jesus Christ to share His love with them. As you do, remember the Bible verses from Hebrews: "Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, 'Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.' So we say with confidence, 'The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?'"

People do not need to be convinced of their need for a Savior! They are already eager for a hope that proves real. They are already longing for a better life. And they already feel the need for divine protection. The many cries of the modern person have only one answer – Jesus Christ.

Praise God He sends us into cities to seek the lost and point them to Jesus. Because, through the power of our Savior's death and resurrection, lives are changed! In John 10:10, Jesus says, "I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full."

Life-change is possible through Jesus. This is the message that God is asking YOU to share with the hurting people in your city. Will you step outside of your comfort zone today? Will you dare to offer someone the hope and peace found only in Jesus Christ?
