This picture is so precious to me.
It was taken this year in Mexico City after I spoke at a local church for Easter Sunday. It was a key part of celebrations over the weekend at the Marcha de Gloria, where hundreds of churches united in the city’s square to celebrate Jesus.
What a weekend! So many in one place together, expressing their love for God, for one another, and for the city! Tens of thousands gathered, many thousands responded to the Good News. But this moment in this photo remains a special one for me in the midst of it all. That precious “one!”
This is Danny (middle) and my translator Jona (right). Danny heard the Good News and came directly forward to meet with me up front, and dedicated his life to Jesus. His was a moment of deep repentance. The relief he felt instantly was seen on him physically and in his emotions. You see this very outwardly every once in a while.
And I thought that this picture captured it quite well. It’s how I felt when I came to the Lord. And I was revived with this glimpse of the power of the gospel to transform lives.
Danny was truly changed by the Gospel and resurrected into a new life after a lengthy battle of wrestling with his past after a lifetime of abuse, sin, and sadness. The Gospel message and the assurance that he is loved and forgiven just as he is truly changed him. And the Local brothers and sisters at the church stood directly by my side and I was able to give them over into their faith or Hans to continue to pray for him and follow up. He was brought by a family friend. And he’s going forward with the Lord there in Mexico City!
Can you see it? The liberation.
God assures us in 2 Corinthians 5:17: “If anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!”
Praise God!
